Le Petit Prince

The Little Prince is a children’s book and was originally published in both English and French in 1943 by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It follows a young prince with a unique perspective as he visits diverse planets in space, including earth. This book deals with themes of loneliness, love, friendship, and loss.

How do the different aspects of The Little Prince's identity influence his actions?

The Little Prince which I originally read in French Communication class, is about a curious, naïve, innocent, sensitive, and kind-hearted prince. He explores different planets throughout the book. His curious nature leads him to ask the people and animals on other planets many questions. Because he is innocent and naïve, he fails to understand why others act the way they do at times. His child-like view of the world causes him to make unique insights about his experiences and the world around him.

How does his identity shape his view of the world and the people around him?

The little prince sees the world through the perspective of a child, always questioning everything around him and struggling to understand concepts that many adults accept in their lives. He finds unfamiliar things quite strange and struggles to accept change and loss during the book.

How do others perceive The Little Prince?

Often, others perceive him as annoying or frustrating to talk to because he asks so many questions and doesn’t simply accept an opinion or concept, but rather wants to understand how it came to be. The people and animals which he makes connections with better understand his kind-hearted nature and compassion, enjoying his presence although realize that they must explain even the seemingly simple concepts in life.
